The ultimate SKIN by ecostore giveaway on Instagram has come to an end, and we are getting all the lovely summer swag out to our lucky winners.

While we're all in the Christmas spirit, we thought you might like to discover more about the incredible New Zealand brands that contributed their beautiful products for the competition.

Penney + Bennett

Penney + Bennett is a New Zealand based design studio, with a love for natural textiles, and a commitment to conscious, thoughtful, and innovative design, quality and longevity. Through the exploration of traditional art making methods and techniques and applying these to modern and contemporary utilitarian objects, each piece is a work of art for your home. The range includes beautiful products for homes and people – to sleep, lounge and live in, all made by hand here in New Zealand.

Wellington Chocolate Factory

The Wellington Chocolate Factory crafts organic, ethically sourced and traded, bean to bar chocolate of the highest quality. Their chocolate story starts with meeting the farmers and bringing the world’s best single-origin beans into their own factory where they roast, crack, winnow, conche and temper – using artisan methods reaching back to the 18th century. Legendary New Zealand artists add their own dash of inspiration, infusing wrappers with original designs. Every bar has a story to tell.

Ethical yoga and loungewear brand WE-AR comes from the concept that we are all one so every action we take affects the whole. Founder Jyoti Morningstar wanted to know whether it was possible to run a profitable, holistic business based on the values of yoga while supporting the people who work on it and the earth systems that are intrinsically part of it. Textiles like organic cotton and bamboo are carefully selected for comfort, sustainability and longevity. The company has developed a strong network of partnerships with suppliers and craftspeople local to the WE-AR creative workshop in Canggu, Bali.

Velvet Heartbeat

Velvet Heartbeat was born from a love of fashion and a desire to be part of a global shift in how we produce and use the items we buy to express ourselves. The brand’s ‘choose nice’ motto means doing no harm to animals, people or the planet. This means knowing where the materials come from, who makes the products, and that they are built to last. Everything is 100% vegan, and all products are lovingly handmade in New Zealand under fair working conditions and paying above the living wage. Velvet Heartbeat believes in reducing fashion industry waste and using sustainable materials, so 95% of materials and hardware are sourced from industry surplus, sustainable textile innovations (e.g. Piñatex®), vintage components and upcycling.

Sarah and Rose are co-owners of ethical concept store Crushes (previously The Bread and Butter Letter – which they started straight out of uni). Recognising that slow is the new fast, Sarah and Rose’s goal is to handpick and create products that can be gifted, used and cherished for years, without ending up in a landfill. Their welcoming Karangahape Road shop and website sell an edit of vintage clothing and lifestyle goods from more than 60 New Zealand businesses. Their vision promotes a sustainable alternative to shopping, as well as a creative and inspiring one.

Six Barrel Soda Co.

Six Barrel Soda Co. started back in 2012, when old friends Joe and Mike began making soda syrups to serve in their Wellington dive bar. The aim was creative, experimental flavours and top shelf quality. Nowadays, their syrups and bottled sodas are used to make delicious drinks by creative cafes, restaurants and bars, and home soda fans looking for something different. Six Barrel Soda Co. drinks are all about real fruit, low sugar, natural ingredients and no preservatives, and still stay true to Joe and Mike’s experimental, small-batch roots.

Hydrangea Ranger

Starting as a small jewellery collection, Hydrangea Ranger has expanded into giftware and homeware, jewellery and paper products. Everything has a bohemian, romantic feel and is made from quality materials. Working from her home studio, Isabella Pachter is inspired daily by the act of making. “Hydrangea Ranger is a collection of products designed and hand made with love in New Zealand by me. I’ve been taught throughout my life by my family of talented and delicate makers who use their hands as their tools. Hydrangea Ranger came from a desire to follow in their footsteps and do what I love best – making.”

Eden and Imogen created Edimo as an ode to their love of nature, the ocean and feeling free. Edimo is inspired by the salt of the earth women of New Zealand. It is a celebration of the individuality and specialness of each of our bodies. It encompasses the strength, beauty and power of women everywhere. The range invites women to feel good in conscious pieces that are thoughtfully designed, super flattering, and in made from textures and colours that reflect the warm Edimo personality.

Wundaire is a bright and quirky range of handmade stoneware pottery pieces for the home. Everything is handmade by Felicity Donaldson in Brooklyn, Wellington.

“What started out as making pots for houseplants has grown into a full time gig with the support and encouragement of friends and strangers worldwide.” With no formal training, Felicity describes her technique as ‘just smooshing the clay’.

Happy holidays to everyone - we hope you enjoy a great break over the coming weeks.
