Behind the hero ingredients of SKIN by ecostore is a story of sustainability. The picturesque Marlborough region at the top of the South Island of New Zealand is renowned for wine growing, particularly its world-famous Sauvignon Blanc, and the stunning Marlborough Sounds where mussel farms dot the waters. While the raw ingredients of both the hero ingredients, the marine and grape seed extract, are by-products of their respective industries, they can have fantastic applications for skin health. True to Ecostore’s philosophy on environmental sustainability, not only can our skin receive wonderful benefits through utilisation of these ingredients, but the environment is supported too. One of the hero ingredients is New Zealand marine extract - read about it below and keep an eye out for upcoming articles about some of the other major ingredients.

New Zealand marine extract

The marine extract, used widely across the SKIN by ecostore range, is sustainably sourced in its raw form - seaweed - from the pristine Marlborough Sounds, located at the top of the South Island in New Zealand. As seaweed’s a chelator and sensitive to heavy metal uptake, the quality of the water it dwells in is important. Fortunately, New Zealand coastal waters are some of the cleanest in the world. Transparency in skincare and its ingredients is of great importance when it comes to selecting a range – after all, our skin is our largest organ, which means it has function to its structure, and what we put on it can be absorbed within.

Seaweed itself a highly nutritious material, and, as well as being edible, it may have beneficial topical application. It contains a plethora of essential nutrients, which are easily absorbable into our skin - it has up to 71 different nutritional components, with many important nutrients for skin health. This includes easily absorbable amino acids and essential fatty acids, such as omega-3. It is also packed with bioactives, including polysaccharides, phenolics and carotenoids, which may help increase our skin’s collagen, elasticity potential and cell regeneration. This can assist in the promotion of radiant skin.

With its unique set of nutrients, the marine extract forms a barrier on our skin’s outermost layer, which not only hydrates the skin, but also delivers and seals in nutrients and potentially helping to minimise dehydration, redness and wrinkles.
