With summer comes sunshine! And there are many factors that can take a toll on our complexion during the hottest months.
With the changing of seasons usually comes a revamp of our skincare regime. Just like we’d switch up our wardrobe with the weather, our skin will often need different support depending on the time of year. Have you ever found what you’ve thought to be your holy grail moisturiser, only to find it stops doing its job as well once the season turns? With variations in the weather, particularly temperature, humidity and wind, our skin’s requirements will adjust accordingly.
Depending on our skin type (e.g. oily, dry, combination or normal), some of us may feel these changes a little more so than others, however everyone’s routine will usually need a little tweaking to help optimally protect against the elements, and in turn keep our skin looking and feeling its very best.
With summer comes sunshine! And there are many factors that can take a toll on our complexion during the hottest months, from higher temperatures and greater sun exposure to sweating, and dryness from spending too much time in front of an air conditioner. This can manifest in dehydrated skin, oiliness for some (hello, breakouts!), or sun damage, which is one of the biggest zappers of youthful skin.
Excessive sun exposure is a serious concern for skin during the hotter months, with prolonged exposure increasing our risk of sunburn and premature aging. Here, a little extra protection is key - think sunscreen, a big floppy hat and sunglasses. Otherwise, additional support from an antioxidant-rich skincare will help protect the skin against any free-radical damage that can occur with spending extra time under the harsh summer sun. One of the hero ingredients in the SKIN by Ecostore’s range is the antioxidant-rich grape seed extract, used across the products, which has antioxidant activity much stronger than vitamin E and vitamin C, both being potent antioxidants themselves. This is great for helping safeguard our skin against any free-radical damage.
If you have oily skin, you may find the need for a more purifying cleanser to help rid the skin of excess oil, which can otherwise clog pores or lead to slick-looking skin. Light, water-based moisturiser may also be preferred over thicker oil-based ones, as a way to nourish and balance the skin without over-doing it on the oil. Remember our skin produces its own oil too, so when selecting a moisturiser we’re looking to compliment our skin’s own oil production.
