How skincare changes with the seasons: Autumn

How skincare changes with the seasons: Autumn

Autumn is a good time to start thinking about swapping lighter summer products for richer formulas, to prepare the skin for the harsher elements to come.

With the changing of seasons usually comes a revamp of our skincare regime. Just like we’d switch up our wardrobe with the weather, our skin will often need different support depending on the time of year. Have you ever found what you’ve thought to be your holy grail moisturiser, only to find it stops doing its job as well once the season turns? With variations in the weather, particularly temperature, humidity and wind, our skin’s requirements will adjust accordingly.

Depending on our skin type (e.g. oily, dry, combination or normal), some of us may feel these changes a little more so than others, however everyone’s routine will usually need a little tweaking to help optimally protect against the elements, and in turn keep our skin looking and feeling its very best. Here’s a brief overview of the how our skincare changes with the four seasons.

Autumn

Autumn is a time of transition, so as the temperature begins to drop, it’s a good time to start thinking about swapping lighter summer products for richer formulas, to prepare the skin for the harsher elements to come. The same products we’d use in warmer months may not necessarily provide us with enough protection against the colder months chills, particularly if we’re someone who’s prone to drier skin! With the cooler weather, often comes less humidity, which means our skin becomes more prone to flakiness and drying out - here creamier cleansers and moisturisers are your skin’s new BFF. Creamier cleansers often work more gently, and won’t remove as much oil as more purifying versions, while richer moisturisers help protect the skin through supporting the establishment of a stronger oil barrier, which can help reduce moisture loss from our skin.

Now is also a great time to start showing our lips a little more love. Look to include a nourishing lip balm into your regular skincare routine to protect the lips against the chillier weather. Make sure to take one in your bag for when you’re out-and-about - dry, cracked lips are never fun! SKIN by Ecostore’s Nourishing Manuka Lip Balm contains beeswax, New Zealand Manuka honey and omega-rich blackcurrant oil, to help both protect and repair dry and damaged lips.
