You know those little green grenades are great for your insides, but did you know about the benefits of New Zealand grown kiwifruit for your skin?
Kiwifruit, also known as Chinese Gooseberry, originated in Asia. But it’s Kiwi farmers who have made this tart, vitamin rich fruit a global phenomenon. The fruit is packed with the high levels of antioxidants and enzymes that have seen these furry fruits given ‘superfood’ status. Kiwiwfruit also contains an acid that provides an exfoliating effect on skin similar to, but gentler than, pineapple.
The ingredient we use in SKIN by ecostore is a light, nutrient-rich oil extracted from the tiny kiwifruit seeds (which make up less than 3% of the fruit’s total weight). These seeds are very delicate and need to be carefully separated from the fruit pulp, using a process developed specifically in New Zealand for kiwifruit.
Kiwifruit seed oil is a rich source of essential fatty acids – particularly a high concentration (around 60%) of Omega 3 alpha linolenic acid as well as being chock full of Vitamin C and Vitamin E. This makes kiwifruit seed oil perfect for skincare and haircare products, as the alpha linolenic acid creates a nourishing, protective barrier to stop moisture loss.
The oil is gentle enough for sensitive skin, psoriasis and eczema. As it’s also quite a ‘dry’ oil, it can be readily absorbed, leaving no residue on the skin. This makes it an excellent facial oil or skincare ingredient, even for oily and acne prone skin.
The kiwifruit seed oil we use in SKIN by ecostore skincare has been extracted through the traditional method of cold pressing with a mechanical press. This method avoids using heat or chemical solvents, so the oil retains its natural chemical structure and skin loving benefits. It’s rich in antioxidants, which help keep the oil fresh and offer some protection against free radical damage.
Sustainably sourced in the sunny Tasman region of New Zealand, you’ll find kiwifruit seed oil in many SKIN by ecostore products. It is one of the key nourishing oils in our Multi-nutrient Facial Oil and Hydrating Moisturiser – both wonderful for replenishing dry and dehydrated winter skin. But because it’s such a light oil, we’ve also chosen to incorporate it into the SKIN by ecostore Purifying Cleanser, Light Moisturiser and Replenishing Night Cream – which are all ideal for combination and oily skin types.
So don’t just make it part of your diet this winter, make it a nourishing part of your skincare regime.
